Quick paint demo 7-17-14

Today's quick paint demo combined sketching with shapes (fractal painting) and direct painting. I think I'll take this one to finish. The amount of time at this point is about 45 minutes or less.

Quick Sketch Demo 7-14-14

I asked the class today to tell me what they wanted me to paint. River boat on a river, and a swamp. I had them tell me where to set the vantage point, where the focal point should, direction of movement, direction of light, etc. This is what I blocked in based on their suggestions. I'll take this farther for them on Wednesday.

Quick Sketch Demo 7-09-14

Demo 7-09-14 I used 5 values as basic shapes to create depth. I then developed the form based on where I chose the light to be. Next I added a bit of color. I usually develop paintings this way - shape, then form, then color, and then detail. This first three stages take about 30 minutes in real time paint - it takes longer when I have to talk :)

Process Illustration 03

This is an illustration that was a challenge. Corel Painter challenged me to do a digital plein-air painting. So, I brought out a shadow box, my computer, wacom tablet and a couple chairs into the landscape and had a bit of fun. Read more about it here.

Coffee Break

Joe sneaks out often for a coffee break at work and things happen on his job that result in promotions and events that he had nothing to do with because everyone covers for him. It becomes a game among much of the office staff - how fast can they fast-track Joe into upper management. There is one problem however, another emploee wants to spoil the game.

A Wink And A Nod

On July 10th, 1941, the Jaegersfontein set sail from San Francisco. Among the passengers on board the Dutch ship were one hundred and twenty young men and women bound for China. They traveled as missionaries, salesman, poets, even circus performers. They were all part of a secret air force recruited from the ranks of the military to fight the Japanese, even though the United States was not yet at war with Japan. Roosevelt never signed an executive order for this action - it was done with a wink and a nod. They were called the American Volunteer Group - The AVG
