Quick paint demo 7-17-14
Today's quick paint demo combined sketching with shapes (fractal painting) and direct painting. I think I'll take this one to finish. The amount of time at this point is about 45 minutes or less.

Quick Sketch Demo 7-14-14
I asked the class today to tell me what they wanted me to paint. River boat on a river, and a swamp. I had them tell me where to set the vantage point, where the focal point should, direction of movement, direction of light, etc. This is what I blocked in based on their suggestions. I'll take this farther for them on Wednesday.

Quick Sketch Demo 7-09-14
Demo 7-09-14
I used 5 values as basic shapes to create depth. I then developed the form based on where I chose the light to be. Next I added a bit of color. I usually develop paintings this way - shape, then form, then color, and then detail. This first three stages take about 30 minutes in real time paint - it takes longer when I have to talk :)

Process Illustration 03
This is an illustration that was a challenge. Corel Painter challenged me to do a digital plein-air painting. So, I brought out a shadow box, my computer, wacom tablet and a couple chairs into the landscape and had a bit of fun. Read more about it here.

Coffee Break
Joe sneaks out often for a coffee break at work and things happen on his job that result in promotions and events that he had nothing to do with because everyone covers for him. It becomes a game among much of the office staff - how fast can they fast-track Joe into upper management. There is one problem however, another emploee wants to spoil the game.

A Wink And A Nod
On July 10th, 1941, the Jaegersfontein set sail from San Francisco. Among the passengers on board the Dutch ship were one hundred and twenty young men and women bound for China. They traveled as missionaries, salesman, poets, even circus performers. They were all part of a secret air force recruited from the ranks of the military to fight the Japanese, even though the United States was not yet at war with Japan. Roosevelt never signed an executive order for this action - it was done with a wink and a nod. They were called the American Volunteer Group - The AVG

The Commoner
In the seaside kingdom of Umbria, a six year old boy, Jonah, is left by his sailor father in the care of a silversmith and his wife. Peter, the smith, teaches Jonah the trade and by the age of fifteen, Jonah is a talented young apprentice. Painfully shy, he watches people from reflections in window glass or mirrors.
One day the princess Eleanore and her entourage give the silversmith a royal commission for her father’s coming birthday. Jonah is smitten by the beauty of the princess. Determined to profess his love but too shy to speak it, he decides to make a silver flute and express what he feels through music. He does so from the rooftop of his master’s house every night. When he plays, the entire kingdom stops to listen, including the princess, who falls in love with him.
When the king finds out he is furious. He devises a trial of three tasks that the apprentice must complete to prove his worth and earn the princess’ hand while he secretly plots to see that the flute player fails.

Goodfellow and Faust
Dylan runs away to join the circus. The Goodfellow and Faust Circus is not at all what it seems to be. It’s members are made up of immortal magical beings left behind when ‘The Great Rift’ happened thousands of years earlier, creating the human world we know and a dimension of magic which is their former home.
A shadow of their former magical selves, they travel the world in search of other rift survivors and encourage them to join their troupe. Together they all search for a way to leave this earthly plane and return to the magical plane that left them behind.

Fixers
During the Golden Age of Hollywood a “fixer” was someone on the movie studio payroll that took care of the messes caused by movie employees, especially the stars. They did it by bribing law enforcement, paying off families, making people disappear, or guaranteeing fall-guys life time employment after serving slap-on- the-wrist sentences.
A murder takes place in a studio controlled whore house that will rock L.A. to its very foundations, that is if the truth ever gets out.
Follow the story of a transplanted Chicago cop, turned L.A. Private Eye, as he navigates a tempest of vice, suicide, organized crime, murder and corruption to solve a case and save an innocent girl from the “Hollywood Dream Machine.”

Poison Kitchen
A World War Two thriller involving one of the few news media outlets that opposed Hitler's rise to power in Germany. The Munich Post warned the public for twelve years before that day in 1933. Hitler referred to the Post as the Poison Kitchen and shut them down when he gained complete control.
