Illustrating Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-Ray

I remember when I was a small child being loaded into the back of our Ford Fairlane Station Wagon with my brother and carted off to the Drive-in so that mom and dad could enjoy a night at the movies. They had enough cash to see the movie, but not enough for a babysitter, so we tagged along. Their enthusiasm for movies waned in the subsequent years because of their hectic schedules. The family nights at the theatre stopped. Then one day in late May 1977, my dad came into my room and asked if I wanted to see a movie with him. I said sure. We went to our small local theatre, took our seats, and settled in for the film that was all the rage. We were hoping that the hype would be a reality. We were hooked the moment the title splashed onto the screen, STAR WARS, then the opening crawl. The creative flame was fanned.

Thirty-four years later… It is with great pleasure that I can announce my involvement with Menagerie Creative, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Lucasfilm to create packaging for the long-anticipated Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray. The opportunity to illustrate the covers was a privilege. The illustrations include; The Complete Saga Box, The Original Trilogy Box, The Prequel Trilogy Box, and several illustrations inside the packaging. The project brought me back together with long time friend Cheryl Savala, Creative Director for Menagerie Creative. Cheryl and I studied illustration at California State University Fullerton and have worked on several projects together over the years. It was a treat to be teamed again with the talented crew at Menagerie Creative.

This summer I walked into the main convention hall at The San Diego Comic-Con International and experienced a brief geek-out moment. Seeing the illustrations at larger than life size can do that to you; and realizing, I’m linked, in a small way, to the Star Wars legacy forever. I think my dad would have gotten a kick out of that. The experience was made even better after meeting several of the nice people from Twentieth Century Fox and Lucasfilm. I would like to thank Menagerie Creative, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Lucasfilm for this wonderful and memorable opportunity.

So cool, Cliff! My boyfriend just purchased the set here in Sydney, and one of his first comments was how much he loved the cover. Did you do any of the booklet art as well?

Yes, several of the interior illustrations were painted by me. They are now on my website www.cliffcramp.com
